The 2014 pre-Festival message from  Four Winds Chair, Sheena Boughen

We have so much to show you, and a sublime program to make your hearts sing. We cannot wait to welcome you as we launch our whole site, Nature's Concert Hall and our year-round calendar of events that will give you Four Seasons of pleasure. Our community is relishing the possibilities the   Windsong Pavilion and the Sound Shell will create, and we are thrilled that    the design builds on the intimacy we treasure about our place.

Do note, we start at 9.30 on both days and will open the site early to ensure  you are relaxed and ready. See you soon.

A message from Four Winds Artistic Director, Paul Kildea

A festival is a celebration of a place and audience. Because both are so special at Four Winds it was surprisingly easy to bring together Richard Tognetti (Australia), Giovanni Sollima (Italy), Dejan Lazic (Croatia) and Zen Hu (China). And because I have been visiting Bermagui since childhood I was determined to involve the town more. So the festival now begins on Thursday night in Bermagui, moving to Barragga Bay on Saturday. On Friday there is a special free concert at the Fishermen’s Wharf by Michelle Nicolle, supported by local artists Kade Brown and Melanie Horsnell.

We’re featuring the composer Kate Neal who has taken on several commissions, one involving Shellie Morris and the poet Herb Wharton, the other – a modernist reimagining of the songs of Cole Porter – with Michelle and players from the Australian National Academy of Music. I invited back ANAM alumni, the Auric Quartet, straight after their Four Wind residency, and in a busy festival for them it is a pleasure to put these young players together with another old friend, the comedian, artist and songwriter Paul McDermott, whose animated films will be shown throughout the festival in the new Pavilion. The icing on the cake was welcoming back to Bermagui Margaret Throsby.

So come join a feast of outstanding national and international artists performing new and old music from around the world. And remember: you’ll not encounter this soiree anywhere but here!
