Kim Walker

Dean and Principal of Sydney Conservatorium of Music at the University of Sydney in Australia, Kim Walker is a Scottish/American bassoonist and a Professor of Music.

As one of the world's foremost woodwind performers, she has toured as a soloist, chamber musician and teacher giving hundreds of master classes around the world. She was been Professor of Music at the Indiana University School of Music for a decade where she directed the major Arts Festival for the City of Bloomington and Indiana University since 2000.

She performed for a decade as first bassoon with many of the world's finest orchestras (London Symphony, Chamber Orchestra of Europe, RAI Torino, l'Orchestra de la Suisse Romande), appearing at the London Proms, and with major orchestras throughout Europe, Asia, and Australia, working with such conductors as Ashkenazy, Solti, Bernstein, Dorati, Rozhdestvensky, and Knussen.

Winner of several international prizes, including First Prize in the Pope Foundation Awards in New York (1992), Kim has been a frequent guest with the Lincoln Center Chamber Music Society in New York, and invited regularly at major festivals around the world, including Marlboro, Ravinia, Sarasota, Lucerne, Schleswig-Holstein, Banff, Sydney, Hong Kong, and Prades.

Kim's solo discography contains 23 award-winning cds for Decca, Gallo, Collins, and NMC including concertos by Mozart, Strauss, Hummel, Bainbridge and Wolf-Ferrari.
