Karin Schaupp

Karin Schaupp is one of the most outstanding young guitarists on the international scene, her playing hailed by the German press as “so perfect, so complete, that it seems like a miracle”.

While in her teens she won prestigious international prizes, and today tours regularly throughout Australia, Europe, Asia and North America performing as a recitalist, soloist and festival guest, and making countless television and radio appearances. Karin has released five solo CDs for Warner Music and ABC Classics. Among these is Lotte's Gift (2007), the soundtrack to the play that was written for her by David Williamson.

Orchestral releases include the world premiere recording of Ross Edwards' Concerto for Guitar and Strings (2004), and Peter Sculthorpe's Nourlangie (2005) for guitar and orchestra with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra. Karin's most recent release is Spain (2009), featuring concertos by Rodrigo and Bacarisse with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra, and Castelnuovo-Tedesco's Romancero Gitano with the choir Cantillation.

Recent performance highlights include concertos with the London Philharmonic Orchestra (UK) in London's Royal Festival Hall, the Springfield Symphony Orchestra, The Queensland and Tasmanian Symphony Orchestras, a season at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, and performances at the World Expo (Aichi, Japan) and Hong Kong Arts Festival.
