Lou Bennett

Lou has been in the music industry for twenty four years now. Lou is the former member of internationally acclaimed trio TIDDAS. Lou is a consummate performer, playing audiences worldwide and during her ten years with TIDDAS she penned some of the groups signature songs.

Lou has had the privilege to sing with the Black Arm Band alongside artists such as Archie Roach, Ruby Hunter, Shane Howard, Paul Kelly, Shellie Morris, Emma Donovan, Ursula Yovich and dan Sultan. Lou has also sung with other internationally acclaimed singers such as Powderfinger, Gurrumul, Jimmy Barnes, Sinead O'Connor, and John Cale. Lou showed the audience another level of her expertise not just in her voice but as a leader of Australian music, when in 2009 Lou composed and arranged the vocals for the third Black Arm Band performance titled 'Dirtsong' 2009. Lou was also Artistic Director of the Boite 2009 Millenium Chorus 'Our Home Our Land' and she went on the be vocal arranger for 'Seven Songs to Leave Behind' in October 2010.

When not on stage performing, Lou can be seen mentoring other musicians (both young and old), and attends schools in remote communities assisting those to retrieve Aboriginal Languages. She explains this process of language retrieval as 'Waking them up after a big sleep!' Lou is currently studying her PhD in the retrieval of her own language 'Yorta Yorta', through the Arts at RMIT.
